Building Digital Products for People: The Leseb Story

Leseb means 'for people' in Amharic. That's not just a name — it's our design principle, our hiring criterion, and our north star.

COMMUNITYblog

In Amharic, 'Leseb' means 'for people.' When I founded this company, I wanted that meaning to be more than a name — I wanted it to be a design principle, a hiring criterion, and a north star.

Ethiopian communities have always been rich in culture, creativity, and connection. What they've lacked is digital infrastructure built specifically for them — not adapted from tools designed for other markets, not translated afterthoughts, but platforms built from the ground up with Ethiopian context at the core.

That's what we're building at Leseb. One product at a time, one community at a time.

The Four Products

Leseb currently operates four products, each targeting a different community need in Ethiopia:

Zemare — gospel music streaming with scripture annotation for Ethiopian Christians

MenuQR — digital menus for Ethiopian restaurants and hospitality businesses

Degash — Telegram-based event and wedding management bots

Abol Connect — voice-first dating for Ethiopian singles

Each product was born from the same process: deep listening to a community, understanding a real problem, and building something that treats the user's intelligence and cultural context with genuine respect.

What 'For People' Means in Practice

It means we don't build features our users didn't ask for. It means we localize in Amharic, Tigrinya, and Afaan Oromo — not just English. It means Zemare's premium tier is priced at 199 ETB, not $10, because our users live in Ethiopia. It means Degash runs on Telegram because that's what Ethiopian users already have on their phones.

Technology serves people — not the other way around. That's the one thing we refuse to compromise on.
